Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201079142
Event: 01/30/2013
Employee Is Injured in Fall from Trailer

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on January 30, 2013, an employee was working in a field harvesting lettuce. The employee was standing on top of the flatbed trailer receiving boxes of lettuce from the harvesters on the ground, and then stacking the containers on the back of the flatbed. The employee was walking toward the front of the trailer to hold on to the boxes while the tractor made a 180 degree turn at the end of the field in order to go back down the next set of rows. The employee lost his balance as the tractor turned, and he fell off of the flatbed, a height of less than four feet, landing on his side in the field rows. He suffered back injury and internal bleeding, and was hospitalized for three days.
