Employee Gets Burned by Car Antifreeze

At approximately 13:45 pm, on September 2, 2011 Employee #1, mechanic of Bridgestone Retail Ops, was assisting another mechanic to troubleshoot a 2000 Ford Focus SE. Employee #1 was asked by Employee#2 to help him out to find out where the vibration problem was located. Employee#1 told Employee#2 to put the car in drive while the car was running and then Employee #1 would be able to pin point the trouble location. Employee #2 then got out of the car and went to Employee #1, where Employee #1 bent into the hood of the car to show him where the vibration was occurring. About three seconds later, the plastic radiator bypass hose split open and hot coolant splattered onto Employee#1's body. Employee #1 was taken to a health clinic, but was referred to be taken to Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco for the treatment of burns to his neck, underarm and rib cage. He was hospitalized for six days.
