Employee Is Killed in Fall from Roof

At approximately 8:41 a.m. on August 22, 2011 , two roofers were nailing a 1.5 inches wide by 0.5 inch thick by 20 ft. long drip edge nosing against the fascia board on the eave of the roof which was approximately 17 feet 7 inches from the grade. Employee #1 was securing the drip edge nosing, and fell to the concrete grade, resulting in severe head trauma. Employee #1 was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, CA. The employee died at approximately 1:10 p.m. on the same day as a result of his injuries. According to witnesses, the employee was wearing his fall protection harness, but was not tied off.
