Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 200776284
Event: 01/27/2011
Worker Using Circular Saw Lacerates Hand

On January 27, 2011, an employee was working for Sasaki Associates, Inc., a firm that provided architectural services. The firm's vice-president of human resources gave him a list of tasks to perform. One of the items on the list was to build a box to go around a toilet. The employee was using a hand-fed circular rip saw without guards, a spreader, or anti-kickback fingers or dogs. The 0.625-inch-thick piece of plywood he was cutting kicked back, causing his left hand to slip onto the blade. He sustained a laceration to his hand. Someone turned off the equipment, took off his shirt, and applied pressure to the wound. The employee was not hospitalized.
