Employee Severs Small Finger During Hedge Trimming

At approximately 11:20 a.m. on July 12, 2012, Employee #1 was working on school property, trimming roses. He was using Kawasaki hedge trimmer (Model# TF22DVX; Equipment# 553235), when he became tangled in the spiky bushes. As he tried to free himself, the hedge trimmer slipped and his right hand's fifth finger got caught in a blade resulting in an angulated avulsion of distal pad in a 45 degree angle. The fire department responded and transported Employee #1 to the Valley Presbyterian Hospital where he was treated and discharged on the same day. There was no tendon or nerve damage.
