Employee Gets Broken Arm by Conveyor

At approximately 5:20 p.m., on March 16, 2011, Employee #1, a supervisor of Houweling Nurseries Oxnard, Inc., suffered a crushing injury to his right forearm as a result of trying to clean a running conveyor belt roller using a metal scrapper. Employee #1 turned on the conveyor, used a vacuum to clean the conveyor then lifted the conveyor belt with his left hand and used a metal scrapper in his right hand to clean the roller as it turned. The scrapper caught and pulled his hand and forearm in, resulting in a right distal radius and ulna fracture to Employee #1's right arm. Employee #1 was transported for treatment to St. John's Regional Medical Center where he was hospitalized for 20 days.
