Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202469367
Event: 08/17/2010
Employee Amputates Index Finger on Miter Saw

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on August 17, 2010, Employee #1 was working for Robert C. Worth, Inc., in the woodworking department on the southeast side of the main shop. Employee #1 had been working for this company about eleven years, most recently as a mill operator. Kitchen cabinets were manufactured at the facility. At the time of the accident, he was performing his daily duties. He was working within proximity of his supervisor. He was using a CDT Miter Cutoff saw, with Serial Number 3774, that had a 3,450 rpm motor and a ten-inch blade. He was cutting 2-inch by 1-inch boards that were 96 inches long into pieces 40 inches in length. For some reason, the index finger on his right hand was struck by the blade and amputated. Employee #1 was transported to Pacifica Hospital and treated for one day. An investigation concluded that no violation of any Title 8 standard in connection with this accident had occurred, and as a result, the Division did not issue any Serious accident-related citations. Only non-accident-related citations were issued.
