Employee Suffers Burns to Hand in Pressing Machine

At approximately 5:25 a.m. on July 21, 2009, Employee #1, a Laborer, Employee #1 was pressing industrial shirts. When she reached in to straighten out a shirt, the top portion of the presser came down on its own. Employee #1's left hand was caught in the pressing machine. She received second and third degree burns. She did not know how to release the top portion of the machine. The production manager, who was close by when the accident occurred, assisted the injured worker in pulling her hand and arm out of the machine. Neither Employee #1, nor the manager knew that the machine had an emergency release located in the middle of machine. Employee #1 was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center by the Production Manager.
