Employee Collapses While Planting Tree, Later Dies

On February 12, 2011, an employee and a coworker were working planting small trees at a personal residence with an adjoining piece of land. They were working as day laborers. The employee, who had been working for approximately four hours digging shallow holes and inserting tree sapplings, suddenly fell to the ground. A call was made for emergency response and the fire department responded. The cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency procedures were attempted on the employee. According to the fire department, the employee had a significant cardiovascular event. After the emergency procedures at the site were performed, the employee was taken to the hospital. The employee died in the hospital. The employee had been using simple hand tools. The employee may have died of non-occupational related heart attack.
