A Worker Cuts His Fingers While Using a Skill Saw.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., On November 11, 2010 Employee 1 was seriously injured at the employer's jobsite located at 1130 Sleeping Child Ln. in Auburn CA. The employer was a framing contractor working, at the time of the accident, on a custom home. According to the employer reports that employee 1 was cutting a notch out of a 2 by 4in block with a hand held skill saw, ripping it 1 1/2in by 3 1/2 in, when the accident occurred. He was gripping the block with his left hand and got the blade too close to his fingers, severely cutting the index and middle fingers. The saw belonged to emplyee1 but had been checked by the employer prior to use to ensure its safety devices were operational. The guard was in place at the time of the accident. Employee 1 had received training on the safe operation of such equipment and the employer's safety expectations. The employer had an effective Injury and Illness Prevention Program and Code of Safe Practices.
