Employee Falls from Ladder and Later Dies

On November 16, 2010, Employee #1, a farm laborer, was using an aluminum agricultural ladder to picking olives from an olive tree. He was approximately 7.5 ft high on the ladder, when he lost his balance and fell, striking and breaking a tree branch. Employee #1 struck the ground and sustained injuries that included one leg fracture. He was transported to a medical center, where he had surgery on the leg and was hospitalized. After being discharged, he returned home, but was readmitted a few days later due to surgical complications. Employee #1 died at the hospital a few days later. The medical determination of cause of his death was under investigation.
