Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202490769
Event: 08/30/2010
Employee Fractures Skull Between Trailer and Wall

On August 30, 2010, Employee #1, a receiving clerk, was checking on a trailer being load at the receiving door of a distribution center. As he walked to the door, he noticed the roll-up door associated with the receiving door was open and the trailer had backed into this door. Believing the trailer had stopped, he went to the driver's side of the trailer and placed his head between the door's exterior wall and the trailer's back door to see whether the truck driver had chocked the trailer wheels. While placing his head into this space, the trailer backed up momentarily pinning and crushing his head. He was able to free himself when the trailer moved forward, but he sustained an orbital fracture around his right eye and a skull fracture on the left side behind his ear. Coworkers came to his aid and emergency medical personnel were summoned. They arrived and transported him to a medical center. At the center, he was administered medical attention, which did not include surgery. After receiving the medical care, he was hospitalized for approximately two days and released on September 1, 2010.
