Employee Amputates Finger While Using Band Saw

At approximately 6:48 p.m. on January 8, 2012, an employee, a maintenance mechanic, was on his day off and working on a private project in the maintenance shop. While cutting a piece of metal with a Jet horizontal floor mounted band saw, the employee's left thumb made contact with the blade and severed his thumb just below the thumbnail. Emergency services were notified and the employee was taken to the Vaca Valley hospital in Vacaville for treatment. He was then transferred to the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco for further treatment.
