Employee Falls in Trench and Injures His Knee

On March 26, 2010, an employee was working on a T-shut of valve or fitting of an 8-in. water line in a trench at a depth of 9-ft. The wrench he was using slipped off of the bolt, and he fell backwards into a deeper trench to the West of his location at a depth of 14-ft and struck his right knee on a cast iron fitting. The employee strained and bruised his right knee. The employee was transported via personnel vehicle to the Macy Hospital, where he was stabilized and transported to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City IA. At Mercy Hospital, the employee was treated for bruised knee and released the same day.
