Investigation Summary
On July 14, 2010, an employee, a ranch hand, was leading cattle from one pasture to another utilizing a feed truck. The truck was a 1982 Ford F-6000, with a standard transmission and a feed box mounted on the truck frame. The employee stopped the truck to get out and open a pasture gate. The employee left the truck running placed it in neutral, positioned perpendicular to the fence pointing toward the gate and on a sown hill slope. The emergency brake was not operational and was not engaged. While the employee was opening the gate, the feed truck rolled forward, running over the employee, and the gate, continuing down the hill about 400 feet beyond the gate before it came to a rest. The employee was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
