Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202529954
Event: 12/07/2009
Employee Steps Into Hot Liquid, Receives Burns

On December 7, 2009, Employee #1 was making his daily rounds on an oil field worksite and noticed a water leak on the north side of the road. He got a shovel and started to scrape the ground near the leak to see if he could determine the source of the leak (multiple lines were in the area of the leak). He cleared some weeds with the shovel and poked around the leak. He then walked around to the north side to see if he could identify the line. As he walked around, the ground gave way under his right foot (he was approximately 5 ft from where the leak had surfaced). His foot fell into a hole and hot water entered his boot. The hot water scalded his upper right foot and ankle, causing second and third degree burns. He was transported to a medical center, where he received burn treatment, and was hospitalized.
