Employee Amputates Fingers While Cutting Shim

On October 27, 2009, Employee #1, a mechanic, was operating a Grizzly Planer, Model Number G0452Z, and Serial Number GJ06-0320, to cut a nylon shim. As he used his left hand, holding a push stick, to push the nylon material across the planer material kicked back, causing Employee #1's left hand to contact the rotating blade. The blade operated at 4,800 RPMs and measured 2 inches in diameter. Employee #1 was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for the amputation of his pinky and ring fingers on his left hand.
