Employee Suffers Head Trauma Falling Out of Truck

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on November 2, 2010, Employee #1, an installer and apprentice electrician, and a coworker were riding in the back of a Tacoma Toyota pickup truck, California license plate Number 7Z82540. The truck was loaded with loosely lying scrape and trash in the bed. The truck was being driven by another coworker going to a waste disposal dumpster, located approximately a half mile away. The scrape and trash consisted of cardboard boxes, plastic shrink wrap sheets, scrap electrical fixtures, plastic pieces and wooden pallets on the top. Employee #1 was standing on the trash near the tail gate the coworker was sitting across on the tail gate of the truck. Driving the truck slowly through an automatic opening gate, the driver accelerated and the trash shifted. Employee #1 and the coworker fell out of the pickup and landing on the asphalt road. Employee #1 landed on the right side of his face sustaining serious head trauma injuries and was unconscious. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
