Employee's Finger Is Amputated in Pavement Mixer

On August 11, 2010, Employee #1, of Westco Contracting Incorporated, was adding water into a slurry mixing tank (seal- coating mixer machine) using a water hose. The power was on, and the blades on the shaft were rotating inside the tank. The hose inadvertently went into the tank, got caught, pulling the hose and Employee #1s left hand into the rotating blades. The rotating blades caused complete degloving of his left ring finger up to the first knuckle. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of the amputated finger.
