Worker's Thumb Is Amputated by Forklift Rope

On December 28, 2009, Employee #1, working for Kimstaff HR, was unloading pallets from a pick-up truck. He was holding the end of a rope that was coiled to the mast of the forklift. When the operator pulled the load, the rope became stuck at the tailgate portion of the truck. The rope that was coiled to the mast of the forklift caught Employee #1's left thumb, which was amputated. He was taken by another employee of the pallet exchange to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injury and was hospitalized.
