Worker Fractures Foot While Using Ladder Imjproperly

On January 5, 2010, an employee was working for Buy Fresh Produce Inc., a company engaged in the food processing business. At the end of his shift, the worker drove over to the company's new facility. Upon arriving, the worker noticed that the president was on a ladder attempting to remove a ceiling tile. He then volunteered to help the president by climbing an A-frame ladder without opening it up. It was used as an extension ladder, and since it was neither secured at the top, nor at the bottom, it slipped away from the wall when the worker climbed on it. The worker fell approximately 5 feet to the floor, and fractured his right foot. The worker was taken to County USC Hospital where he was hospitalized. An investigation revealed that the ladder was used improperly.
