Employee Fractures Hip in Fall from Ladder

On April 16, 2011, Employee #1 was working as a salesman for a high end automobile dealership. Just prior to the dealership closing for the day, Employee #1 realized that the control chain for a roll-up door had become detached. It was necessary that the door close in order to set the end-of-day alarm. As Employee #1 ascended a 12-foot ladder to reattach the control chain to the door, the ladder slipped. A nearby coworker grabbed a hold of the ladder to prevent the ladder from falling; however, was unsuccessful. The ladder and Employee #1 fell to the ground, with Employee #1 landing on his left hip. Employee #1 was taken to a nearby medical facility, where he was hospitalized and underwent surgery to repair a fractured left hip.
