Employee Amputates Arm in Belt Drive of Car Wash

On September 13, 2010, Employee #1, floor foreman at a car wash and detail business, had finished preparing the car wash tunnel for the day's business operations. Employee #1 is a 25 year veteran in the car wash industry and a full-time employee. There were no witnesses other than the site's video camera system which captured all preparatory sequences leading up to the accident. However the point of the accident was blocked by Employee #1's back. The video shows Employee #1 pressing the activating button for the tunnel belt drive which activates a pair of rollers that pop up from under a guarded railing which in turn pushes the car through the wash tunnel. Immediately thereafter, Employee #1 walked to the spot where the rollers pop up, knelt down on all fours, and seconds later got up and ran into the cashiers office with a severely mangled left hand and arm up to the elbow area. The injury resulted in the amputation of Employee #1's left arm immediately below the elbow.
