Employee Amputates Finger with Circular Saw

On April 15, 2010, Employee #1 was operating a hand-held circular saw (Skilsaw Model Number F012SD7702, Serial Number 833184186). Employee #1 was in the process of making a two inch by two inch notch at the corner of an approximately 16 inch long piece of two inch by four inch lumber. Employee #1 had the lumber sitting on the sill of a window opening in a framed wall structure. While holding the piece down with his left hand, Employee #1 was operating the Skilsaw with his right hand, when the saw jumped onto his left thumb and amputated it diagonally. The amputated part was taken to the hospital and was successfully reattached. Employee #1 was hospitalized for eight days.
