Event: 10/18/2009
Employee Is Killed in Explosion

On October 18, 2009, an employee, a maintenance technician was finishing the work of installing a floor threshold plate in front of the Renzmann wash unit, Machine Type 300-35. The wash unit utilized ethyl acetate to clean rotogravure printing press components, and the steel plate was being installed to protect the concrete floor beneath. He was using a Milwaukee hand grinder to cut off leveling and anchor bolts were used in the installation of the floor plate. At approximately 6:05 p.m. an explosion occurred blowing the door off the wash unit and rupturing the side panels. The employee was thrown approximately 30 feet in the explosion, and died from his injuries.
