Employees Amputates Finger in Chain Sprocket Drive

At 7:20 a.m. on March 23, 2009, Employee #1, an employee of Placement Pros, Inc., was reinstalling a belt on a sheave assembly of a running Compaq fruit grading machine at the Paramount Citrus facility in Visalia, California. As Employee #1 was adjusting the belt on the sheave, his hand slipped and his index finger got caught in the adjacent chain sprocket drive. Employee #1 sustained a partial amputation of his right hand index finger. He was transported to Palm Occupational Medicine in Visalia, California, for treatment of his injury.
