Employee Amputates Fingers While Removing Jam

At 4:00 p.m. on December 9, 2008, Employee #1, a laborer, was clearing fruit from a conveyor that caused it to jam. While he was removing the jammed fruit, he inadvertently placed his left hand near the chain/sprocket assembly conveyor. Three of his fingers on his left hand became caught in the assembly, causing their amputation. He was initially taken to Industrial Health Care in Selma, California for treatment; however, he was transferred to a Regional Hand Center in Fresno, California, where he was treated for the partial amputation of his middle, ring, and little finger of his left hand.
