Employee Is Injured When Struck by Machine Pallet

On March 5, 2009, Employee #1, a laborer, was moving a stack of shirts to the table adjacent to the screen design machine, a Gauntlet, Series II, which was 6 inches away. He was standing directly in front of the table instead of off to the side, as was the normal procedure, due to the close proximity. As he bent over to pick up the shirts, his backside extended over the guard railing that was below the shirt pallets, and he was struck by one of the shirt pallets, stopping the machine, which was on an automatic cycle of every 10 seconds. He sustained bruises to his upper legs, as he was caught between the pallet and control panel. Employee #1 was taken to the local hospital. He was treated, released, and returned to work the same day. He stayed out of work the following day to elevate his legs, per his doctor's recommendation.
