Employee Is Burned While Cleaning Autoclave

Employee #1 was operating an autoclave. The equipment stuck while cycling through a cleaning cycle. Employee #1 shut the machine off then she turned it back on to have it recycle through to a restart position. When the recycle period was completed, Employee #1 opened the autoclave and water poured out, burning both of her feet. The water was approximately 120-degrees to 130-degrees Fahrenheit. According to a service technician who responded to the site, gallons of water came out of the autoclave. Employee #1 suffered second-degree and third-degree burns to both of her feet. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
