Employee's Back Is Injured When Lifting Client

On March 1, 2012, Employee #1 was performing assigned task of caregiving at a client's home residence. The employee's client was attempting to use the restroom. Employee #1's client stood up from the bed. The employee's client failed to reach the restroom and fell beside the bed. Employee #1 attempted to lift the client but failed. The employee made another attempt to lift the client and heard her own back crack. Employee #1 returned the client to her bed and called Emergency Rescue Service. Later in the morning the employee's back was too painful for her to get out of bed. Employee #1 phoned her daughter, who then called Emergency Rescue Service. The employee was transported to University of California San Francisco Hospital, where the employee was treated for a fracture and a herniated disc in her lower back area. Employee #1 remained hospitalized.
