Employee Amputates Finger in Ungarded Table Saw

On November 5, 2010, Employee #1 suffered serious laceration and amputation type injuries to the fingers and thumb of the left hand while operating a Sears table saw (Model Number 137.218740) at a home located in Encinitas, California. The employer, World Floor Covering, did not report the injury to authorities. World Floor Covering was installing laminate flooring in a house, and Employee #1 was cutting a piece of wood flooring lengthwise on the table saw. The table saw was placed on the ground and did not have a hood guard installed over the table saw blade. While cutting the wood flooring Employee #1's fingers and thumb contacted the turning blade causing severe lacerations and amputation type injuries. Employee #1 received emergency medical treatment and was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas by paramedics from San Diego Medical Enterprises, working with the Encinitas Fire Department. Employee #1 was hospitalized over 24 hours.
