Employee Punctures Hand in Welding Accident

On June 7, 2010 After finishing a welding task, Employee #1 removed his welding hood. Employee #1 stated that the accident occurred when he reached for his welding helmet with his left hand which was in close proximity to his right hand and the welding gun. While both hands were in close proximity to each other, Employee #1 inadvertently squeezed the trigger on the welding gun causing the welding wire to feed out of the end of the welding gun. The welding wire was hot from his previous welding and as such, was able to puncture his welding glove and his hand as the welding wire fed out of the welding gun. At the time of the accident, Employee #1 was wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment for welding which included a welding coat, welding gloves and safety shoes.
