Investigation Summary
At approximately 1:25 p.m. on March 9, 2010, Employee #1, a librarian, was working in the library (ground floor) and was gathering books around the library study areas to be placed on the shelves. Employee #1 had to speed up, to accommodate the growing long line of third grade students waiting in front of her desk to check out books. Employee #1 turned around the corner of a shelf with books in both hands. There was a 10-inch by 13-inch metal stool on the floor at one of the aisles in between shelves. Employee #1 did not notice the stool. Employee #1's left leg got caught under this stool. This caused Employee #1 to trip and fall on to the carpeted floor of the library. Employee #1 felt that it was just a muscle pain and did not seek medical attention at the time. During the holidays, due to pain Employee #1 sought medical advice of the doctor at the UCSD medical center and was admitted to the hospital. Employee #1 sustained fracture of right femur and the right hip was repaired with surgical procedures. Employee #1 informed the employer on March 25, 2010. The employer reported the injury to the Division at 1:00 p.m. on March 26, 2010.
