Employee Sustains Fractures in Fall from Platform

At approximately 6:40 a.m. on October 11, 2011, Employee #1 was using the stock picker to remove coffee supplies from the elevated shelves. He thought he had lowered the platform to ground level and stepped off backward. In actuality, the work platform was still 5-ft from the ground. Employee #1 fell to the ground, landing on his feet and left side. A coworker was nearby and assisted him. Employee #1 was transported by helicopter to LAC/USC County Medical Center, where he stayed for three nights for treatment of fractures to his left side ribs, clavicle, shoulder, and hip.
