Employee's Finger Is Injured When in Cutting Machine

On March 10, 2009, Employee #1, a machine helper, was assisting a coworker using a Polar 78 Cutting Machine, Model Number 78E, Machine Number 6661379. Employee #1's supervisor removed the rear plastic guard of the machine to accommodate folded pieces of stock that needed to be cut. Employee #1 was standing at the rear of the machine holding the stock down with his hands, while his coworker was in front of the machine, operating it. The clamp that holds the stock in place behind the cutter came down and crushed Employee #1's right thumb. Employee #1 was hospitalized and treated for lacerations and a muscle tear.
