Investigation Summary
On March 30, 2009, Employee #1, a laborer, was working at a construction jobsite involving the renovation of an old building. He was instructed to remove nails from the internal framing of the building, as well as siding from its exterior. However, Employee #1 understood that he needed to perform this work on both the buildings first and second kevels, but the employer only instructed him to work the first floor. He was not supposed to be on the second floor because a stairwell opening and several supporting joists had been cut out at this level. After completing removing the siding from the exterior of the building, Employee #1 accessed the second floor from the inside. As Employee #1 transited across the weakened floor, he fell 10.58 feet to the main level. Employee #1 was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was hospitalized and treated for a fractured back.
