Employee Fractures Hip in Fall from Ladder

On June 19, 2008, an employee, a shop manager, used a 6 foot "A" frame ladder to climb onto the platform of a mobile crane. Platform was 5 ft 6 inches from grade. The employee tried to descend ladder while holding a rag. The employee placed his foot on the first rung below the top cap and his foot slipped causing him to fall about 4 ft. The employee landed on asphalt. The employee was hospitalized and treated for a fractured hip.
