Investigation Summary
On October 25, 2009, Employee #1 was assisting in performing freeway repairs that his employer was contracted to do. The repairs involved work on the two right-hand lanes of the South Bound side of the freeway. As Employee #1 had just completed jackhammering a small section of concrete on the section of road, approximately 12 feet inside the worksite barricades, a vehicle went through barricades and struck him. Employee #1 was dragged between 60 to 70 feet and was slammed into a concrete barrier, killing him. The vehicle fled the scene following the incident.
