Event: 01/21/2011
Employee Injured in Fall from Ladder and Elevated Platform

On January 21, 2011, Employee #1, a lead mechanic, was servicing the electric motor of a gantry crane from a 6 ft ladder. The ladder was placed on a man basket, which was lifted by a crane to a height of 5 ft to gain access to the motor. After performing the task, he descended the ladder with his left hand holding the top cap and his right hand holding the motor shaft. While stepping down with his left foot onto the second ladder rung and his right foot still on the third ladder rung, he lost his balance and fell with the ladder. The ladder landed on his right leg causing an unspecified injury. Employee #1 was transported to a medical center. At the medical center, he underwent treatment and received care and was then hospitalized.
