Employee's Leg Is Amputated When Trapped in Auger

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on October 6, 2008, an employee was operating the Pump, 6-in.-Seepex, when he stepped on top of the hopper to get leverage. His foot slipped down and it was caught by the turning auger. The employee's right foot was pulled in by the rotating auger and caught inside machine. As he was getting pulled in, he yelled for help and a coworker, a foreman, ran and shut the machine off and called another coworker to give him assistance. Emergency assistance was called for the employee. The employee was hospitalized and treated for a right leg amputation.
