Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201622610
Event: 09/22/2008
Employee Is Struck by Vehicle, Fractures Legs

Employee #1, a police officer, was on routine patrol within the city limits and observed a large metal door in the middle of the road and determined that it created a road hazard. Employee #1 parked his car at the intersection facing the object, then put on his spotlight and rear amber lights. A large truck stopped next to Employee #1's vehicle on the north side and offered assistance. A northbound truck on the highway also stopped in the left turn lane at about the same time. Employee #1 removed the door from the roadway and was returning to retrieve another object when he stepped out from the front of the large truck and was struck by a southbound motorist. Employee #1 received multiple injuries to both legs and his feet and was transported to a local hospital where he was hospitalized.
