Employee Suffers Amputation in Wood Saw

An employee was using a DeWalt radial arm saw to cut wood stakes from a 1-by-4 piece of wood. The alignment rod next to the blade was off center. The blade hit a knot in the wood; and, when the worker tried to push the wood through, his left gloved hand contacted the blade. The employee suffered lacerations to the middle finger on his left hand and amputations of his ring finger to the second knuckle and his thumb to the knuckle. He was hospitalized for his injuries.
