Investigation Summary
At approximately 2:50 p.m. on May 27, 2008, Employee #1, a temporary employee of Able Body Temporary Services, Incorporated, (working for Barnhill Contracting) was assisting in checking the grade while Barnhill Contracting paved the road. Employee #1 collapsed after stating that he was not feeling well. Coworkers noticed that he was not sweating and his skin was clammy. He was told to take a break at approximately 3:00 p.m. He was given water and told to sit in the shade. He vomited during this break. After taking a 10 to 15 minute break, he stated that he felt better and resumed working. He began performing general labor, which consisted of picking up debris on the side of the road. Coworkers again noticed that he did not look good and told him to take a break underneath a tree across the road. This break was around 3:45 p.m. At approximately 4:00 p.m., sub-contract workers for an electric utilities company found Employee #1 lying on the ground. CPR was administered by coworkers, prior to the arrival of EMS. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
