Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202488268
Event: 11/07/2008
Employee's Hand Is Caught in Rollers of Dough Machine

On November 7, 2008, Employee #1, a laborer at a noodle factory, was operating a dough sheet roller. The dough sheet roller would roll out dough to a desired thickness before it is cut into noodles. As the machine was running, the employee was feeding dough through a narrow opening between two rolls. His left hand was caught between the rolls. The machine was turned off, a belt and pulley drive was moved in its opposite direction to allow the employee to free his hand. The City of Sacramento Fire Department responded and took the employee to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. The employee sustained a fracture to one finger on his left hand that required a pin/plate to be inserted; and a severe laceration to the backside of the hand. Employee #1 was hospitalized for four days.
