Worker Falls Off Makeshift Platform

On September 8, 2008, Employee #1, a 41-year-old male, with Oak Ridge Builders was working with a coworker and was putting up trusses and nailing them in place from below the trusses, while standing on a makeshift work platform built over a stairwell. The fall distance from one side of the working platform was nine-feet to the floor and from the other side, fourteen-feet to the stairway landing. No rails were installed on the work platform and personal fall protection was not worn. Employee #1 lost his balance and fell nine feet to the floor, and during the fall came into contact with the rail around the stairwell. Employee # 1 was hospitalized from unspecified fractures received during the fall.
