Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202486924
Event: 04/23/2008
Employee Is Injured by Unguarded Saw

On April 23, 2008, Employee #1, of Bavarian Auto Recycling, Incorporated, was packing recycled parts and needed a small board to make a packing strap tighter. He grabbed a thin board and went to the miter saw to cut it. According to Employee #1, the saw guard was usually out of alignment and tended to stick, which prevented it from being raised as the cut was made. Employee #1 stated the once again he experienced difficulty with the guard and decided to raise the guard with his left hand, as he had done on previous occasions. The guard broke and Employee #1's left hand came into contact with the rotating saw blade. He went to the hospital and was treated for cuts and lacerations he sustained in the incident.
