Employee Is Killed in Fall Through Skylight

At approximately 8:20 a.m., on October 10, 2008, an employee stepped onto and fell through a fiberglass skylight on a metal roof with a pitch of 1.5:12 while performing roofing work. The employee fell approximately 13 feet and suffered severe head trauma. Two coworkers were present on the roof but located at the opposite end and opposing slope of the roof. The skylight on which the employee stepped was coated with a silvery reflective coating and the sun was rising, which may have contributed to the employee not seeing the skylight. The employee died of his injuries the following day.
