Event: 12/06/2007
One killed, one injured when struck by vehicle in work zone

On December 6, 2007, Employees #1 and #2 and two coworkers were cleaning barrier walls in the westbound lane of I-26, inside of a marked work zone. When they were finished, they began removing the work zone signs, starting in an eastbound direction. At approximately 5:30 a.m., Employee #1 was standing beside his work truck on the right shoulder of the road when a vehicle veered from the roadway and struck him and his truck. Employee #2 was struck by a road sign that had been in the bed of the truck and suffered a fractured arm. Both workers were transported to the hospital, where Employee #1 was pronounced dead. Employee #2 was treated and released.
