Employee Amputates Finger in Unguarded Table Saw

On October 6, 2007, Employee #1, an employee of Lite Metals, was using a unguarded Powermatic table saw, (Serial Number 66-1350) to cut ceiling tiles. The employer's representative acknowledged that he reluctantly gave Employee #1 permission to remove the guards from the table saw. Employee #1 amputated his left index finger and cut his middle and ring fingers to the bone, and was hospitalized for treatment.
