Employee's Leg Is Fractured When Struck by Flying Object

On June 13, 2007, a flat steel plate was being edged trimmed by an automatic trimmer and the right-side sheer jammed. Two experienced operators were attempting to clear the jam and Employee #1, a trainee, was standing behind them observing. The steel plate buckled and kicked the guard rail off the platform. Employee #1 was knocked off into a scrap pit approximately 14 ft below. He was hospitalized with a fractured leg.
